Tempietto
Chartered Architects - Practice Profile
Tempietto
was established in Berkhamsted in June 1998 to provide professional
architectural services to developers, building managers and homeowners
in the South-East of England. Since inception, much of our work
has been in sensitive locations where our ability to produce modern
or traditional designs that are suitable for their context, is an
essential ingredient of success. Our design skills are supported
by a sound understanding of historic buildings, planning legislation
and Government advice, which is invaluable in achieving the aspirations
of our clients.
The
aim of Tempietto is to produce distinctive buildings by responding
to the challenges of each site and finding the right solution for
the individual needs of our clients.
Although
we have not abandoned the traditional skills of sketching and drawing,
Tempietto are committed to the use of technology wherever this can
improve accuracy and efficiency. We have therefore invested in updating
our computer system and Computer Aided Design software and are now
using Allplan 2003. This software has enabled us to produce 3D views
and walk-through presentations at design stage. It also allows us
to produce clear and accurate working drawings and scheduling, when
developing designs for construction. During the design process we
can electronically transfer drawings, images and documents, enabling
each member of our team to communicate with clients and other members
of the design team quickly and efficiently.
We
offer a wide range of architectural services varying from advice
on repairs to historic buildings to a full architectural service,
including contract administration.

His
understanding and insight into the Planning system, gained during

is invaluable in providing guidance to clients.

1987 he attained a postgraduate Diploma in Building Conservation

building conservation was recognised when he was accepted as a full
member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation.
CASTLE MILL, BERKHAMSTED
Castle
Mill is an early 20th Century corn mill, which was served by the
Grand Union Canal that runs alongside it, and is now within the
Berkhamsted Conservation Area. Our proposals, on behalf of Azurie
EV Ltd, include refurbishment and extension of the existing offices
within the Mill, improving both horizontal and vertical circulation
and updating all the services. This has necessitated the incorporation
of a new lift shaft and a new glazed staircase tower. Alongside
the Mill we have designed a new apartment block over the existing
car park, sympathetic to the design of the Mill. Curved zinc roofs
provide a visual link between the proposed additional storey to
the Mill and the new apartment building.
Throughout
the design propose we have used Allplan to present our initial ideas
to our client and the Planners and to present the final proposals
to the Town Council and other interested parties. Having seen our
presentation to the Town Council, a reporter for the local paper
asked to be emailed one of the images we produced in Allplan, which
they published.
